Welcome Back to Brookdale

The Brookdale Student Life Board helped kick off the 2014-15 school year on Sept. 9 by hosting a party for new and returning students in the Student Life Center as part of Welcome Back Week.

The annual celebration gives students a chance to catch up, make new friends and learn about the wide range of campus opportunities available over the next nine months.

“It gives everyone a chance to come together, have some fun, and really see what this school has to offer,” said Student Life Board member Justin Licker.

This year’s inaugural party, centered on the week-long theme of “Welcome Aboard,” transported students onto the Lido deck of a cruise ship. Attendees were treated to free food, music, an inflatable “bungee run,” caricature-painting, wax art, wire sculptures and the close-up magic of wandering magician Eric Mina.

Magician Eric Mina blows a few students’ minds during Welcome Back Week on Sept. 9.

Welcome Back Week will continue on Thursday, Sept. 11 with the annual Involvement Fair, held on the Student Life Center patio from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m.

Featuring information on more than 50 student groups, the Involvement Fair gives all Brookdale students an opportunity to make new connections, develop new skills and help make a difference at Brookdale.

“You can really expand your horizons and make connections with professors and advisors that you never would have had otherwise,” said Licker. “I’m so glad I decided to get involved. I recommend it to everyone.”
