While Brookdale Public Radio is best known for playing records, the popular Monmouth County station took time out last week to break a couple.
Over the course of four days, the member-supported 90.5 the Night raised more than $40,000 as part of its annual Spring Membership Drive, held this year from April 20 – 24. Donations poured in from nearly 400 local listeners and supporters, breaking the station’s previous records for funds raised during a membership drive.
It’s been a banner year for WBJB, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2015. In December, the Night was named “Top Radio Station (To Support Local Music)” by the Asbury Music Awards for the 14th year in a row.
This year’s record-setting membership drive came only ten days after the station’s 18th annual Brookdale Guitar Show, which once again drew hundreds of supporters and music fans to the Lincroft campus.
“I think Brookdale Public Radio has remained so popular with listeners because of what the station brings to the community,” said station manager Thomas Brennan.
“Between our commitment to local news, weather, traffic, and support for local non-profits and our iconic mix of music, we really have something special here. The contributions of our members, local underwriters, and Brookdale Community College make all of this happen.”
