There is no better way to get acclimated to a new – and cold – semester than to enjoy it with some free snacks, giveaways, and music. Thanks to the Office of Student Life and Activities, all this was possible Thursday, Jan. 21 in the Student Life Center with the annual “Warm Up to Another Semester” event.
About 60 students were present to enjoy ski ball, customized Chinese name art, a candy bar, and light refreshments. Music entertainment was provided by one of Brookdale’s own computer science students, Sanjai Rambhadjan, aka DJ Skillz.
In addition to fun free activities, the event focused on increasing student involvement. Erin Marie Tierney, advisor to the Student Life Board, staffed an information table promoting the more than 50 clubs and student organizations found at Brookdale.
Students were able to inquire about their club interests, leave their contact information for club members and pick up a free tumbler cup with the slogan “Watch how you will change when you get involved.”
Brookdale engineering major and Physics and Astronomy Club member Roland Riim said student clubs are a valuable part of college life.
“It’s a good way to get students to participate,” he said.
The new and returning Brookdalians seemed to appreciate the event, including current nursing student Conor Nolan.
“It makes Brookdale feel homey,” he said.
