The Office of Student Life and Activities’ 2017-18 “Laugh at Lunch” series got off to an uproarious start on Sept. 28 when acclaimed comedian Matthew Broussard took the stage in the Warner Student Life Center.
Broussard, a New Jersey native and former financial analyst who left the field to pursue a comedy career in L.A., pens the weekly webcomic Monday Punday and has appeared in hit TV shows like The League, The Mindy Project, Guy Code and Roast Battle. He has also performed on Conan, Last Call With Carson Daily, and starred in his own half-hour special on Comedy Central.
More than 50 students packed into the Navesink rooms for Broussard’s uproarious 90-minute act, which ran the gamut from religion and politics to college life, personal identity and relationships.
“My girlfriend used to be a professional athlete. And I, well, I am not athletic at all,” said Broussard. “I played middle school football – in college – but that’s pretty much it… It’s intimidating, but it’s also kind of nice. I feel so safe in her arms.”
Laugh at Lunch attendees were also treated to a free pizza lunch and refreshments.
“I think it’s a great way to kick off the semester,” said Student Life Board member and second-year business major Rishika Khosla.
” I mean, who doesn’t love comedy? Laugh at Lunch is kind of the perfect event to bring students together and show them that Brookdale is not just some ordinary community college. We kind of act more like a four-year school, when it comes to student life programs and campus events. There’s so much more to do here than just go to class.”
Student Life programming continues on Sept. 29 with the Brookdale Cares day of service at Longstreet Farm in Holmdel, followed by a pumpkin carving competition on Oct. 3 in Lincroft.
