Brookdale celebrated its student workers April 17 at the annual luncheon attended by the workers and their supervisors.
Justin Melendez, a student employed at the Freehold campus, and James Farney, who works in Student Life and Activities, both received the award for Student Worker of the Year. Frances Mae Gatungay, also from Student Life and Activities, and Shannon Dallas, who works at the bookstore, were runners-up.
Nancy McHugh, automotive lab technician, was named Supervisor of the Year. Carl DeJura, director of adult basic education, and Heather Revesz, supervisor of textbooks, were runners-up.
The Student Worker of the Year Award is based on quality of work, motivation and initiative, reliability, dependability, contribution to the department or college, relationship with others and cooperation with department. Winners receive a framed certificate and gift card. Superiors nominate students and a nominations committee selects the winners.
In addition to the winners, other nominated students this year were Timothy Catafalmo, Marilyn Daye-Burke, Frederick Dolan, Karim Hossien, Vianca Martinez, Shayla Oliveras, Carolina Reinoso, Deborah Snider and Alexandria Whitten.
The Supervisor of the Year award is based on effective communication and supervision, as well as the relationship between student and supervisor. Students nominate supervisors for consideration for the award.
