With summer almost here, what can be more fun than eating barbecue and listening to great music from the Caribbean islands? The Spring Fling Barbecue, held on the Student Life Center Patio on April 25, provided a great opportunity to celebrate the end of the 2013 spring term and welcome summer.
A long line of students and Brookdale employees stretched from the Student Life Center doors to the patio, to enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw, and drinks. Servers also provided the crowd a variety of finger foods to choose from.
The live reggae band “The Verdict” entertained the crowd, playing music from a variety of reggae artist including Gyptian and Mr. Vegas.
Katrina Byrd, a 20-year-old freshman majoring in Creative Writing said, “I’m enjoying myself. It’s fun that everybody came out, and the atmosphere is relaxed. And, I love reggae music!”
Dancing was definitely a part of the festive celebration with many students grooving to the music, grateful to take a break from classes. Julie Silverio, a 20-year-old Zoology major said, “I’m glad the semester is almost done, but I also have a summer class and this barbecue will definitely get me into a summer mood.”
The Spring Fling Barbecue was coordinated by the Student Life Board, and funded by ASBCC funds. Brookdale students with a valid ID ate for free and non- Brookdale students paid $5. For information about other student events, visit the Student Life and Activities website.
