International Education Week Kicks Off November 14

Brookdale Community College’s International Center will host International Education Week from November 14 – 21, 2013. International Education Week provides the Brookdale community with a variety of events on and off campus, while celebrating the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education and is celebrated in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Annual Global Citizenship Seminar: Micro-Credit—the Most Effective Donation 
Thursday, November 14, 20103 at 11:45 a.m. in Student Life Center, Navesink I & II

Tiffany Persons, micro-finance and fundraising leader; U.N. Woman of the Worlds; Leadership & Personal Development Expert; Founder of Shine on Sierra Leone, shares how one organization used micro-credits for mothers to ensure an education for 7,000 children. As donor fatigue plagues most western societies, this talk touches on the highs and lows of micro-credit schemes will take you on the journey of one dollar as it cycles through the micro-credit engine.  This event is sponsored by Student Life & Activities, the International Education Center, and Global Citizenship Project.

Bachata is a dance from the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Islands.  Both the music and the dance have been influenced by Cuban Bolero, the Merengue, Salsa and Cumbia.  This high energy dance performance will leave you wanting more!  Light lunch will be served.  Sponsored by Student Life and Activities.

Passport Day and Study Abroad Information Table—Win Prizes!

The U.S. Postal Service is providing a one-stop passport shop for first time applicants. Individuals can submit an application, pay the fee, and have photos taken in-person. Various forms of identification are required. For more information regarding application materials and acceptable forms of ID, please visit: http://travel.state.gov/passport. Now is the time to prepare for summer 2014 and fall 2014 study abroad. Come and learn about study abroad destinations in 30 different countries, summer faculty-led programs, financial aid and scholarship opportunities.   Also, test your knowledge of geography and flags to win some prizes!!!
