Hundreds of students visited the Warner Student Life Center on September 11 for the annual Involvement Fair, which featured booths and advisors from Brookdale’s more than 50 student clubs and campus organizations. While snacking on free popcorn and Dippin Dots, students learned about how they can get involved, learn new skills and help make Brookdale a better place.
The fair was the zenith of the Welcome Back Week activities, sponsored by the Office of Student Life and Activities and the Brookdale Student Life Board. The theme of the week was “Welcome Aboard,” featuring interactive opportunities and ice-breaking activities for Brookdale’s returning students and newest community members.
First-year student Gianna Mauro enjoyed her first Brookdale club fair and joined the Student Nurse Association, Outdoors Club, and Pre-Med Club.
“I want to go into nursing, and I found clubs that I feel I will enjoy,” said Mauro, “I can’t wait to meet new people and gain experience this year.”
First year student Brian Keough found a number of clubs to suit his interests as well, including the History Club, Poly-Sci Club, and Education Club, each of which suit his goal of becoming a history teacher.
Other booths featured professional groups such as the Architectural Society and ALPFA, special interest organizations such as the Veterans Club and Jewish Student Union and activity clubs such as the Trading Card Game Club and Theater Club. Student services such as financial aid and career counseling were represented as well.
“There are opportunities here for everyone, regardless of where their interests lie,” said Kevin Przystawski, president of the Brookdale Student Life Board.
“From graphic design and computer science to theater or even gaming, we have so many clubs to choose from. All of them provide students with the opportunity to get involved, make connections, develop skills and become a leader. The students who get involved are usually the ones who have the best time here at Brookdale.”
