Frangela Kicks Off 2015 “Laugh at Lunch” Series

The Office of Student Life and Activities’ 2015 “Laugh at Lunch” series got off to a rowdy start on Sept. 29 when L.A.-based comedy duo Frangela took over the Student Life Center.

Frangela, featuring comediennes Frances Callier and Angela V. Shelton, are best known for their appearances on the VH1 comedy show “Best Week Ever,” NPR’s “Day to Day,” and their role in the 2009 movie “He’s Just Not That Into You.”

Nearly 100 students packed into the Navesink rooms for the group’s raucous blend of topical comedy and observational humor, which earned Frangela a nomination for Best Female Act of 2015 by Campus Activities Magazine.

In addition to jokes about college life and popular culture, the duo poked fun at some willing audience members and even had a few things to say about Brookdale itself.

“They told us to expect traffic on the way into campus, but we didn’t believe them. My God!” Shelton said. “You guys need to fix that roundabout thing. It took forever to get in here. Say what you want about Brookdale students, but you all clearly work for your education. You definitely want that degree.”

Student Life programming continues on Oct. 5 with the kickoff of the 2015-16 Visiting Writers Series, featuring award-winning poets Ilyse Kusnitz and Michael Broek. Check out the full calendar of upcoming Student Life events here.
