More than 100 Brookdale faculty, staff and administrators received some well deserved time in the spotlight on May 12 during the college’s annual Employee Recognition Ceremony.
On the final day before commencement, and following a morning of personal and professional development offered as part of the 2016 Scholars Day program, employees from every institute, office and division gathered in the Jersey Blue Dining Room to recognize their peers for their hard work and achievements.
“This, to me, is just an amazing time of the year,” said Brookdale President Dr. Maureen Murphy. “I’m glad that we have this time to gather together and really share and celebrate each other’s work.”
This year’s honorees included: the 2016 Barringer Award winners; faculty members who were promoted or granted tenure; staff who received an official performance recognition; six faculty members who earned a new degree or professional certification; the 2015-16 members of Governance; nearly 20 retiring employees; five employees who were granted sabbaticals; record-setting softball coach Bo Scannapieco; members of Brookdale’s championship athletic teams; the chairs of the college’s Middle State re-accreditation teams; four departmental teams that received Brookdale Innovation Grants; and the presidents of Brookdale’s four employee associations.
Special recognition was also given to five beloved Brookdalians who passed away this academic year: Winifred Albert-Johnson, Children’s Learning Center; Cheryl Cummings, Brookdale Network; Marianne Drake, Innovation Center and Learning Resources; Michael Fowler, marketing; Eugene Snyder, English.
Murphy then presented gifts to 11 Brookdale employees who celebrated 25 years of service with the college in 2016: Andrea Murowski; Mark Ghezzi; Leslie VanCleve; Priscilla Mullings; Beth Tarantino; Ann Tickner-Jankowski; Brian Caden; Bruce Thompson; Stephen Dougherty; Marilee Luick; and Barbara Tozzi.
Brookdale Employee Volunteer Connection member Helen Vota presented the college’s Volunteer of the Year Award to Ann Marie Alfieri, confidential administrative assistant for the Higher Education Centers; while Kelli Sanders was recognized for as an Outstanding Supervisor of Student Workers.
Outstanding Staff Awards and gifts were presented to Ernestine Austin; Cynthia Bradbury; Sonia Falotico; Christine Forman; AnnMarie Johnson; Mary Lambert; Eric Malmros; Cecilia Rodriguez; Tatiana Shabat; and Leslie Van Cleve.
Outstanding Administrator Awards and gifts went to Mary Ehret; Louise Horgan; Ernest Oversen; Laura Qaissaunee; and Kelli Sanders.
Peer Recognition Awards and gifts were presented to Debbie Almeida; Joanne Davis; Jill Donovan; Katherine Edward; Mark Ghezzi; Dinneen Jackson; Rita Lo; and Susan Scarangella.
Recognition also went to the members of Leadership Brookdale, who produced and presented a video titled “I Am Brookdale” featuring moving testimonials from a wide range of college employees.
