Detective Explains Importance of Community Policing

Students in Professor Barbara Gonos’ Police Role in the Community course at Brookdale Community College learned about the philosophy of Community Policing. Detective Gregory Washington, of the Neptune Township Police Department, explained to students that Community Policing is important because it develops strong police-community partnerships while creating a positive relationship with the youth, both in and out of school.

“Detective Washington is an extraordinary role model for students to emulate because he has successfully carried out the Community Policing philosophy in Neptune Township,” said Professor Gonos. “He has a great respect in the community he serves, especially among its youth.”
