Already a three-time hall of famer and the winningest softball coach in NJCAA Division III history, Brookdale Jersey Blues coach Thomas “Bo” Scannapieco is once again on the verge of greatness.
As of March 28, Coach Bo is only two wins away from one of the rarest and most significant coaching milestones in all of collegiate athletics: 1,000 wins. In the history of the National Junior College Athletics Association – which includes hundreds of teams from two-year colleges across the country – only six softball coaches have reached the 1,000-win mark.
With a record of 998-284-3, Scannapieco has the chance to join some elite company during the 2016 season. With two more wins, Coach Bo will become one of only seven NJCAA softball coaches to reach 1,000. He would also be the first softball coach in NJCAA Division III history to reach that milestone.
Scannapieco, a Brookdale alumnus, has been head coach of the Jersey Blues softball team for more than 30 years. In that time, his teams have qualified for the NJCAA national championship tournament 18 times and won 18 Region XIX championships, including 11 straight from 1996-2006. Coach Bo’s teams have also won 15 Garden State Athletic Conference championships and three NJCAA national championships, most recently in 2010.
Scannapieco was inducted into the NJCAA Softball Hall of Fame in 2007; the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame in 2013; and the Brookdale Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016. He is a three-time NJCAA coach of the year.
