Brookdale Police Department Welcomes New Officer

Brookdale police officers joined college officials and Monmouth County Freeholder John P. Curley on the Lincroft campus Oct. 4 to welcome new campus officer Selina Perez to the Brookdale Police Department.

Perez, of Hazlet, is a graduate of the Essex County Police Academy and most recently worked as a campus police officer with the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.

After being sworn into office by Brookdale President Dr. Maureen Murphy in front of a crowd of friends, family and new colleagues gathered in the Brookdale Administration Center, Officer Perez said she was excited to get to work as a member of the Brookdale community.

“I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Brookdale Police Department, and I love the community-oriented approach to policing that you see here,” said Perez.

“Coming from NJIT, I’m very used to working in a campus setting and I know that this is the kind of police work I want to do. I’m very thankful for the opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”

Following her oath of office, Perez received her official Brookdale Police Department badge from Captain Robert Kimler along with some heartfelt congratulations from the officials in attendance.

“Officer Perez, you are certainly a welcome addition to a most wonderful department,” said Curley, a Brookdale alumni and the official county liaison to the college. “Every officer brings their own background and experience with them, and I’m sure your experience will fit in here beautifully.”

The Brookdale Police Department now employs 13 campus police officers, who work to protect and serve the campus community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The department was officially accredited by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police in March, joining a select group of law enforcement organizations recognized for upholding the highest standards of professional excellence.
