A delegation of a dozen faculty and staff members from Zhejiang College of Construction (ZCC), Hangzhou, China, met with faculty and staff from Brookdale this summer in an ongoing collaboration aimed at a possible dual degree program in Civil Engineering and Architecture. The visitors from ZCC got an overview of how a U.S. community college works, including academic and student affairs and overall administration.
Among the highlights of the visit was a meeting with Dr. Dianna Phillips, executive vice president of educational services, where the visitors learned about Brookdale’s overall organization, its funding and its board of trustees; a meeting with Bryan Butch, chair of Brookdale board of trustees; meetings with Brookdale’s engineering, business, and architecture faculty; a student presentation on campus life; a meeting with student affairs directors; and a session on transfer and articulation.
Accompanying the delegation were two representatives from Greatone Education Group (GEG), an organization which represents ZCC’s interests in the U.S.
Associate Professor Suying Cai, delegation head, thanked the college for hosting the delegation, in particular Dr. Janice M. Thomas, director of the International Center and all the faculty and staff who participated in hosting the group.
“We are impressed with the character of how the school operates and the philosophy of education is very impressive. Equally impressive is the beautiful campus, your hospitality and warmth,” Prof. Cai said. “In the future our college will continue to send teachers and students to exchange ideas.
“We are happy to have you here and excited to explore these kinds of opportunities for students in your country and ours,” said Brookdale President Maureen Murphy. Through collaborative programs like this, we enrich students’ educational experiences and their understanding of other cultures.”
