Selecting a major is often one of the most difficult tasks a college student has to make.
To help make that decision just a little bit easier on Brookdale students, the Office of Student Life and Activities (SLA) hosted the second annual Major Exploration Fair on Feb. 9th in the Student Life Center.
Attendees were able to browse displays and information tables highlighting Brookdale’s more than 50 academic degree programs and speak with representatives from the college’s four academic institutes. The room was laid out to allow open communication between students, faculty and staff.
“I like it. Everyone here is actively engaged in conversation,” said Chris Barry, a Brookdale communication media major.
At the outermost tables, students were able to gain information about the majors, student clubs and campus organizations offered at Brookdale.
Some displays incorporated fun activities or giveaways, including the Brookdale English department’s new “Get Lit” pins, cutouts of human anatomy featured at the psychology table and baked goods and other goodies offered by faculty and staff throughout the room.
The Major Fair allowed students to learn the ins and outs of each major, including required coursework and the potential career paths that they could follow after graduation. “Change of Program” forms were available for students who wanted to switch their major and pursue a new course of study during the event.
Student services and Student Life Board representatives were also on hand to discuss the wide range of support and opportunities available to all Brookdale students.
“This event helps all kinds of inquiring students further their college goals,” said Lada SanFilippo, a public relations major.
