Five students enrolled in Brookdale ‘s Culinary Program were honored at the New Jersey SkillsUSA Championships last month at the Garden State Exhibit Center. Gavin Crawford, Leanne Clark, Chelsea Hurley, Robyn Olsen, and Arielle Brown, were awarded gold and silver medallions at the state competition in culinary arts, commercial baking, wedding cake decorating, and job skills demonstration.
With over 1,600 participants throughout the state, the New Jersey SkillsUSA Championships included students’ currently pursuing career and technical education programs including baking and culinary arts, electronics, computer-aided drafting, automotive service, and cosmetology. The state competition challenged students to work against both competitors and the clock and as a result, showcased the talents and skills of the students.
Brookdale’s Crawford and Clark, who won gold medals in culinary arts and commercial baking, are now eligible to test their skills on a national level at the 2013 National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, June 24-28 .
