Over 200 job seekers joined 32 employers at the Brookdale @ Long Branch Community Job Fair 2013, held recently at the Bucky James Community Center in Long Branch.
Each year, Brookdale sponsors the community job fair to help connect individuals seeking employment with area employers, as a part of the mission to provide education and workforce development opportunities for the residents of Monmouth County. There is no cost for employers or job seekers to attend. The Community Affairs and Resource Center, Long Branch Housing Authority, Monmouth Medical Center and The Windmill, all in Long Branch, cosponsored the event.
Employers in attendance included Six Flags Great Adventure, NJ Transit, New York Life and the NJ Labor Department. Employers met with job seekers to discuss their qualifications and interests, and job seekers were able to complete onsite applications and schedule interview dates.
This year’s preparation advice for job seekers was “Dress for Success, Come Ready with a Positive Attitude and a Resume in Hand.” One of the many attendees who heeded that advice was Stephanie Brazeau who attended the job fair as a part of the Community Affairs and Resource Center (CARC) job readiness program. “She came determined to find a job and I told her it was all up to her. She left with a confirmed interview with an employer for the following Monday,” said Beatriz Oesterheld, Executive Director of CARC. Many employers in attendance found that the job fair yielded a very good pool of potential candidates with whom they scheduled follow-up contact and employment interviews.
