Alumni Association Opens Lounge in SLC

Brookdale graduates past and present gathered in the Warner Student Life Center on April 28 for the grand unveiling of the new Alumni Association Lounge, located near the Scroll and Pen Bookstore.

Association members also took time out to honor Brookdale’s roots by hanging an official plaque and painting of Regret, the first filly ever to win the Kentucky Derby.

Regret, who was bred on Brookdale Farm before the college campus came to be, won the Derby exactly 100 years ago.

The new lounge, situated near the SLC fireplace, also features comfortable furniture, information on available scholarships and an official plaque recognizing those who have endowed scholarships at Brookdale.

“As members of the Alumni Association, we keep an eye on both the past and the future,” said Lauren Watson, president of the Brookdale Alumni Association.

“We remember those who have helped make Brookdale what it is today, and we support the students who are here building on that legacy and making it stronger.”

In attendance were: Lauren Watson (’00), Alumni Association president; Leila Wollman (’79,’81), historian and association member; Doris Hudak (’83), trustee emeritus; Laura Siemientkowski (04), association vice president, and Timothy Zeiss, executive director of the Brookdale Foundation and Alumni Affairs.
