Seven Brookdale staff members were honored at the 17th annual Leadership Brookdale Alumni Workshop and Graduation earlier this month.
At the graduation ceremony, Joan Santa Croce, program facilitator, Dean Pat Sensi, and Dr. Maureen Murphy, recognized the all-female cohort and discussed why strong communication skills, empathy, vision, and the ability to understand various perspectives are essential characteristics for quality leaders.
“This group represents Brookdale and your leadership positively impacts Brookdale’s reputation. We need each of you; your talents, abilities, and desires to make Brookdale the best institution that it can be,” said Murphy.
Leadership Brookdale is a professional development program for Brookdale faculty and staff who are currently in a leadership position, aspire to be in a leadership position, or want to augment skills that make for effective leaders, both on campus and in the community.
“The Leadership Brookdale program has a rich history of providing employees with leadership development and growth opportunities. This year was no exception,” said Santa Croce. “I have learned so much from each of these women and it has truly been an honor and privilege to spend this past year with them.”
Annually, a cohort of faculty and staff are selected from an application process to participate in the Leadership Brookdale program. From October to May, leaders from Brookdale and other organizations present a variety of workshops that provide exposure to the specific skills identified in the Leadership Development Model to encourage professional advancement at the College.
“Currently, there is a national trend in education where senior leadership is retiring in droves and there are no pipelines to fill the gap, said Murphy. “Leadership Brookdale is a successful program that demonstrates a commitment to leadership development.”
