Brookdale Announces 2017 Hall of Fame Class

LINCROFT, NJ (Jan. 24, 2017) – A select group of former Brookdale Community College athletes, coaches and administrators will be inducted into the college’s Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 10 during an awards dinner at the Sheraton Hotel in Eatontown.

The 2017 class includes six former Jersey Blues players, two acclaimed coaches, an administrator and the 2005 national champion Brookdale softball team. They are the fourth cohort to join the hall of fame since it was established in 1979.

Inductees include multiple national champion athletes, including two-time All-American softball player Jessica Williams and back-to-back men’s tennis champion John Macchio, as well as former professional baseball player Peter Peltz and multi-sport standout Mike Toomey.

Former Raritan High School athlete Rich Karpinski will be inducted for his contributions as men’s tennis coach at Brookdale, where he has coached 17 national champions, more than 80 regional champions and won a record 198 games since 1989.

Posthumous honors will be bestowed on Kevin Hayter, former tennis coach and Brookdale literature professor, and James Palumbo, former college vice president, dean and long-time collegiate athletics advocate.

The inductees, nominated by their peers and local community members, will officially join the hall during a recognition ceremony at 6 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Sheraton Hotel in Eatontown. For tickets or more information visit www.brookdaleathletics.com.
