Monmouth County homeowners could pay anywhere from $3 to $50 more a year under a county budget proposal that includes room to give raises to the five elected freeholders.
Yet members of the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders repeatedly emphasized that the $449.5 million budget introduced Thursday was just a starting point. They say they intend to “sharpen the pencil” in hopes of trimming the tax increase to zero.
