Christine Tuzzio, Brookdale’s manager of social media, advertising, and production, has been named one of the top young community college professionals in the nation by the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC).
Tuzzio joined a select group of “movers and shakers” at community colleges across the U.S. this year by receiving the AAWCC’s “40 Under 40 Award,” which recognizes 40 women under the age of 40 who have made significant contributions to their institution. The 2017 honors were presented during the AAWCC’s Annual Convention in New Orleans on April 24.
“When I was notified, I was shocked,” said Tuzzio. “Working at Brookdale for the past five years has been extremely rewarding and being recognized by the AAWCC is a true highlight.”
Since joining the college in 2012, Tuzzio has helmed Brookdale’s advertising and social media efforts while simultaneously serving as an adjunct public relations professor, a member of Brookdale Governance, a member of Brookdale’s emergency response team and graduating from the Leadership Brookdale program. She notably led the college’s social media response efforts in the wake of superstorm Sandy in 2012, working round the clock during widespread power outages to answer questions and provide students and community members with vital information.
Outside of the college, Tuzzio also co-chairs an annual walk in support of the Ronald McDonald House of Central and Northern New Jersey. She previously participated in the AAWCC’s Leaders Institute training program in 2015.
“I believe it’s important to be a well-rounded individual who is involved in the community, gives back, and tries to make a difference, even if it’s small,” said Tuzzio. “I love working at Brookdale and believe in what we do for our students and for the community. Being able to have a small impact in our students’ lives and in the future landscape of community colleges encourages me to do more, challenge myself and strive to push myself professionally and personally.”
The “40 Under 40” award is Tuzzio’s second such honor since joining the Brookdale community. In 2015 she was named one of New Jersey’s Best Marketing and Communications Professionals Under 40 by the New Jersey Advertising Club.
